Fifteen Years of Community: The Miles That Built Everything

Thanksgiving 2025 is behind us but it’s never too late to be grateful. I'm reflecting on the miles that matter most—not the 811.4 across 31 marathons, but the ones I never ran alone.

Fifteen years ago, I said yes to an unpaid Magento forum moderator role. That decision changed everything. Not because forum moderation was glamorous, but because showing up when community calls opens doors you can't see yet.

What followed: Five consecutive years as Magento Master. Creating the Big Dam Run tradition that became official at Magento Imagine. Building Wagento with offices across three continents. Speaking globally. Organizing Meet Magento India. Launching 300 stores for Universal Music Group.

None of it happened alone.

Every conference connection. Every early morning run with strangers who became friends. Every volunteer hour organizing events. All of it compounded into opportunities I never could have manufactured solo.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I'm grateful for every person who invested in me, every community member who showed up, and every relationship that proved success is never individual.

Platforms change. Technology evolves. The community remains constant.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Marketing Automation Transforms E-commerce Revenue with Rytis Lauris

Rytis Lauris from Omnisend revealed striking data: automated emails represent just 2% of total sends but generate 37% of all orders. The reason? Automated messages trigger based on actual customer behavior—abandoned carts, product browsing, purchases, status changes—instead of broadcasting generic promotions to entire lists.

The math is compelling. Automated emails generate $2.96 per send compared to $0.10 for bulk campaigns in the United States. That's a 1,480% difference in ROI.

Yet most businesses limit themselves to two or three basic flows. The winning approach requires 15 to 20 automated sequences covering every customer journey touchpoint. These systems work continuously after initial setup, sending the right products to the right customers at the right moments.

Live From Ecomm Forum Frank Verdeja on Bridging the Gap Between Technology and Business Teams

Frank Verdeja brings 13 years of e-commerce expertise to Talk Commerce in this episode recorded at the E-commerce Forum in Minneapolis.
Frank shares how his early experience at ShopJimmy taught him to bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders. His key insight centers on providing context rather than just translating information between groups.
When technical teams understand why they're building something, they become more engaged and productive. When business leaders grasp technical constraints, they set realistic expectations and timelines.
Frank now works at Precisely, a data management company helping organizations maintain data integrity in cloud environments. He explains how proper data governance enables better AI outcomes, accurate tax calculations, and geo-specific content delivery for e-commerce operations.

Listen to the conversation onContent in Commerce - The End of the Google Search Monopoly

We discussed the ever increasing replacement of Google with LLMs, and the fact that more and more people are searching topics directly on social media platforms.

This all shows why a multi channel and multimedia approach like the Content Flywheel is so valuable!
